CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT

The goal of Back In Motion’s chiropractic care is to not only diagnose an injury, but also understand its cause to prevent future re-occurrences.

Manipulative Therapy - This therapy safely reduces neurologic and muscular stress by restoring joint function and position. Chiropractors have the most extensive knowledge in manipulative therapy of any health care practitioner.

Physiotherapy - Physiotherapy uses massage, ultrasound, electromuscular stimulation, Super Luminous Diode and Low Level Laser Therapy, traction, as well as hot and cold packs to promote early injury recovery.

Graston Therapy - The Graston Technique incorporates a patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively detect and treat scar tissue and restrictions that affect normal function.  Click here to read more about this therapy.

Exercise - Prescribed stretching and strengthening exercises promote stability and help prevent reoccurrence of the injury.

Orthotics & Supports - Foot orthotics, supports and braces can be utilized to limit motion, prevent a improper biomechanics, and aid in the treatment of injuries.

Diet & Nutrition - Dietary changes or nutritional supplementation may be prescribed to decrease symptoms and increase the rate of tissue repair.

Chiropractic care for sports injuries has been found to be safe, effective, can enhance athletic performance, and is used widely by professional athletes.

A study published in the 1995 British Medical Journal that found that for long-term low back pain, “Improvement in all patients at three years was about 29% more in those treated by chiropractors than in those treated by the hospitals.” The study continued, “The beneficial effect of chiropractic on pain was particularly clear.”

A study published in the 1991 Journal of Chiropractic Research and Clinical Investigation on the effect of chiropractic on athletic performance, which studied 11 standardized tests for athletic ability, found that the chiropractic treatment group after 6 weeks made a 10.57% improvement verses 4.5% for the control group. After 12 weeks 16.7% improvement was made.

The practitioners at Back In Motion utilize many therapeutic approaches in the treatment of their patients.

ACUPUNCTURE AND ORIENTAL MEDICINE

For over 2000 years Acupuncture and Oriental Medical modalities have been used effectively to treat aches and pains, injuries and trauma.

Acupuncture - Acupuncture needles are placed along specific areas of the body to treat all types of aches, pains, injuries, trauma and even addictions. By restoring balance within the patient, acupuncture is a safe and gentle modality for everyone.

Oriental Medicine - Herbal formulas may be recommended to support the patient internally, depending on the condition. Chinese herbal formulas regulate energy flow, blood stagnation and enhance homeostatic mechanisms to facilitate the healing process.

Research has shown that acupuncture can increase the rate of healing for all types of sports injuries. Acupuncture is an effective form of therapy because it works by regulating the bio-electric mechanisms within the body. When an injury occurs, swelling, inflammation, and pain signals block the body’s natural energy flow and creates a temporary state of stagnation and disharmony. When acupuncture needles are placed in specific areas of the body, the electrical energy can re-adjust itself so that balance is achieved once again. This supports the inherent healing capacity of the human body to promote an efficient recovery process. Athletes are usually quicker to recover and to maintain maximum structural integrity by incorporating acupuncture into their rehabilitation regimen.

Massage for Sports Injuries

Effect of recovery interventions on lactate removal and subsequent performance.
Monedero J, Donne B. Int J Sports Med 2000 Nov;21(8):593-7

The recovery process in sport plays an essential role in determining subsequent athletic performance. This study investigated the effectiveness of different recovery interventions after maximal exercise. Eighteen trained male cyclists initially undertook an incremental test to determine maximal oxygen consumption. The four recovery interventions tested were: passive, active (50% maximal oxygen uptake), massage, and combined (involving active and massage components). In conclusion, combined recovery was the most efficient intervention for maintaining maximal performance time during T2

Effects of massage on physiological restoration, perceived recovery, and repeated sports performance. Hemmings B, Smith M, Graydon J, Dyson R. Br J Sports Med 2000 Apr;34(2):109-14; discussion 115

Eight amateur boxers completed two performances on a boxing ergometer on two occasions in a counterbalanced design. Boxers initially completed performance 1, after which they received a massage or passive rest intervention. Each boxer then gave perceived recovery ratings before completing a second performance, which was a repeated simulation of the first. A Wilcoxon matched pairs test showed that the massage intervention significantly increased perceptions of recovery (p<0.01) compared with the passive rest intervention.

NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE

Naturopathic care includes the use of many standard diagnostic procedures such as physical examinations, lab testing and in-depth patient interviews to determine the cause of a health problem. Once this process is complete, treatments often include natural medicines such as herbs, minerals, amino acids, vitamins and dietary changes. If indicated, treatment may also include the use of prescription pharmaceutical medications as well.

Naturopathic medicine is ideal for nearly all health conditions, as treatments are intended to assist the body’s healing process, rather than just treating the symptoms of the problem. By treating the body as a whole, recovery from illness and injury is greatly enhanced, ensuring a rapid return to activity.
